Renewable Energy Bristol
Choosing to power your Bristol home with renewable energy can make a huge difference, not only on your monthly bills but it will also help you to do your bit for the planet.
Also referred to as green energy or sustainable energy, renewable energy comes from natural sources and processes which can constantly be replenished.
Choosing renewable energy will help you to reduce how much your home contributes to climate change and step away from using carbon-intensive resources. These systems will also help you to reduce the production of greenhouse has and ensure that your home is more friendly to the environment.
Here at Summit Energies, we are dedicated to providing homeowners in Bristol and beyond with the equipment they need to benefit from renewable energy. Air Source Heat Pumps
An air-source heat pump system works by extracting the air from the outside of your building through the heat pump to transfer heat to be used for your heating and hot water requirements.
If you are looking to generate your own heat, and save money on your energy bills, an air-source heat pump could be a perfect choice, especially should you be looking to replace an electric, oil, LPG or coal system.
Your air-source heat pump system will be placed outside either in your back garden or at the side of your home. Should you pick an air-to-water system, it will work by taking heat from the outside air and feeding it into the wet central heating system, whereas an air-to-heat system will take the heat from the outside air and push it into your home using fans.
Whilst your air source heat pump will need some electricity to run, the system overall will use less electricity than they produce.
Ground Source Heat Pumps
Ground source heat pumps use a network of pipes buried in your garden to extract heat from the ground. This heat is then used throughout your central heating in radiators, underfloor heating and warm air heating systems, and it also heats the hot water in your Bristol home.
In fact, a ground source heat pump is an all-year-round investment as it will also be able to cool your home during the summer months.
These systems will use much less CO2 compared to other forms of heating systems, particularly that of electric heating and coal. The system will also have a much lower running cost, however, the overall savings you will make will depend on the system from which you are switching. Say you are choosing to switch from central heating, you could save yourself around £500 a year.
Like their air-source counterparts, ground source heat pumps will use some electricity to run, yet will use less electricity than they produce.
Whilst they do look similar, a solar thermal system will work in a different way from solar panels. A solar thermal system converts sunlight into heat which is then driven into your boiler.
The system will be fitted onto your roof or in a location where sunlight can be collected in abundance.
In fact, solar thermal systems are considered one of the most efficient systems you can choose to collect heat and fuel the hot water for your home. Most systems will have the ability to deliver up to 70% of the hot water requirements for the average Bristol home.
These systems are a popular way to reduce your carbon footprint and come with a range of benefits including saving money on your monthly bills.
Underfloor heating acts as an excellent alternative to having radiators, and with many different methods of installation available, no matter how your home is laid out, we’ll be able to provide an installation to suit.
Essentially, an underfloor heating system will consist of flexible tubing, fitted over an insulated floor, where a screed is then placed over the tubing.
These systems offer many different benefits including the luxury of warm floors during the colder months of the year and providing a much more efficient and hygienic method of heating your home.
